Junk Yard Expeditions

Just from my title of this page you can see I'm old school.  Remember before recycling centers and political correctness with cars.    These trips are better for me today than most car shows with the opportunity to always find the unexpected.

Here in Upstate New York we are limited like most on our visits to these places these days with so few left and such a short time to explore with over growth of plants when Spring hits and the short time in the Fall before the snow flies.

Yard#1- has over 50 acres it covers and as my son said to me "you look like you've found Heaven."  We also got a couple of pieces for our cars on our guided tour riding in a Maverick with no upholstery left on the seat sitting next to the gas tank( a 5 gallon can) along with tools and torches. Hope to get back there again this year. {pictures taken Summer 2001}

Yard #2- is smaller and we were able to just walk through, gaze and dream. This owner does not want to sell parts but will sell complete cars only. He is 84 and in poor health so the ones you see are probably destined for the crusher sooner than later.     {pictures taken April 2002}

These pictures were all taken with our digital camera which either junkyard owner knew we had with us.  Cameras scare some of these folks not knowing who is from the government and there just to try and shut them down.

Those who still have these yards some people find a bit peculiar and set in their ways after years of living the way they have chosen.

Thank God for them!

Without them we would have even less sources for parts and projects to continue our love affair with the car. Please be kind and courteous and respect their boundaries and rules so as not to spoil it for the rest.
